The news about Whitney Houston's death is very saddening. What is even more saddening is the harsh people all over the Internet claiming their lack of surprise, assuming it must be drug related. Regardless of what caused her untimely death, she should be celebrated and her death mourned. What has our society come to that we speak so poorly (and openly) of the deceased? Some people live troubled lives and though we may never understand the decisions that they make, we shouldn't shrug our shoulders and exclaim "What did you expect?"

Here's to Whitney Houston, the way that I CHOOSE to remember her and her beautiful talent!

For our anniversary, Wolfie and I stayed the night at the Radisson Blu downtown Chicago. We spent the day/night snapping pictures around Millennium Park, ice skating, and sipping on some coffee. We had a lovely tapas dinner at Cafe Iberico and ended the night back at the hotel with some delicious drinks. We had a great time. It was nice to do something out of the ordinary. Cheers to one year of bliss. <3

Here are a couple tips & tricks to get you through the winter weather.

These winter months tend to dry out every square inch of our bodies. Hot showers don't help, but who wants to take a luke warm shower in the winter? Not me. So instead, apply moisturizer to your face while it's still wet and the same goes for body lotion. Lotions absorb quicker and more easily when the body is still damp. If that's just too weird, then apply right after drying off-your body is still warm from the shower, which means your pores are open.

A few of my favorite moisturizers: Clinique dramatically different moisturizing gel (it does not have SPF, so I only use it at night OR under a moisturizer containing SPF), Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 15 (InStyle's best beauty buys of 2010) and Olay Complete Moisturizing Lotion SPF 15 (Allure's best of beauty award winner) AND I've recently worked Josie Maran's Organic Argan Oil into my nightly beauty routine after a close friend suggested it. So far, so good.

Staticy hair? Me toooo. Static is the result of dry hair, which happens naturally in the winter months. A leave in conditioner or deep conditioner can help along with air drying hair rather than blow drying. For a quick and immediate fix, use a dryer sheet on your hair. Say what? I know, I know, but it really works! If that's too strange for you, or if you just don't have one handy, lotion does the same trick. Apply lotion to your hands, rub it in and carefully run your hands through your hair. The key is to be modest because you don't want to grease up your locks.

Blake Lively in Dolce & Gabbana. Yay. I love the black tights and wedges with this sparkly mini.

Kate Beckinsale in leather leggings, an oversize blazer and sexy platform heels. Definite yay. She looks amazing in those pants and heels and the blazer brings it down a few notches. Love this all black, sexy look.

Anna Chlumsky in a sparkling sequined Tommy Hilfiger mini and matching pumps.

It's weird to see Vada Sultenfuss all grown up. Nay. The dress doesn't compliment her body shape and just looks sort of frumpy and baggy.

Vanessa Hudgens in a blue printed Bec & Bridge mini. Yay. I love the simplicity of this dress. The print and metallic belt add the right amount of spice.

Rachel McAdams. Yay. I love this flirty black dress on her and the Atwood pumps really add a nice touch to her all black look.

Rihanna. NAY! No one should wear such a hideously trashy swim coverup. Blech!

Penelope Cruz. Yay. I love the rose colored blazer over the emerald green turtleneck and flared jeans. This look would also be great with skinny jeans and some knee high boots.

Lately I've been cooking and baking more and enjoying it again. Unfortunately, I haven't been as good documenting and sharing my recipes on the Dish, but that is soon to change! I've become inspired even more so after discovering some neat cookware items. Take a peak, they're pretty neat!

Who doesn't love homemade lasagna? Well, the Lasagna Edge Pan makes baking lasagna simple and clean. The pan's sidewalls keep the noodles and layers neatly stacked even after portions are removed. It also bakes more consistently in the Simple Lasagna Pan because more heat is circulated to the pan's middle.

I've always wanted to make homemade bread. There's nothing better than biting into warm and freshly baked bread. And now it's simpler with a bread machine like the Zojirushi Home Bakery Supreme bread machine.

My least favorite part of cooking is the chopping part...especially onions. My eyes, oh, my poor eyes. BUT, I'd chop all day long with beautiful cutting boards like these Totally Bamboo Bamboo Greenlite cutting boards.

AND in the spirit of the Holiday Season--Holiday bakeware!

Just imagine the fun ribbon loafs you can bake and decorate with the Chicago Metallic Nonstick Ribbon Loaf Pan. It reminds me of ribbon candy, which happens to be my mom's favorite around this time of year. I'm already visioning Christmas colors and decorative sugar sprinkles!

Here's a new, fun way to make gingerbread houses. And by essential, I mean it's time I buy it and stop googling at it every time I visit Target, which is quite often, might I add.

I yelped it and now I have to blog it. Crepe Crave is my new favorite discovery. Talk about a hidden gem. I discovered it thanks to Groupon. I bought two Groupons in case it turned out to be a perfectly delicious treat, which it is! And just a few weeks ago, I bought the LivingSocial. It is truly a fantastic place with delicious crepes, gelato and great coffee. Check it out on yelp and have a taste for yourself.

This past Friday I got a little crazy and decided to play Susie Homemaker and baked a chicken pot pie...from scratch! I found an easy enough Betty Crocker recipe here. I have OCD when it comes to certain things, so when following a new recipe, it probably takes me twice as long as the stated prep/cook time. This recipe should take just over an hour, how great is that?

This past weekend was a blast. A good friend from college came to Chicago for a quick visit and it made for some seriously good times. Friday, the group had (family) dinner at Habana Libre as we patiently awaited Lauren's arrival. Everything was great, the service, the food, the mood...and even the company. :) After dinner, we headed for some dive bar fun at Innertown Pub (great find). Saturday we brunched at Simone's, a favorite of ours and played tourists downtown, hitting up all of the photo-worthy spots. Later that night, a few of us enjoyed drinks at Matisse in Lincoln Park. Sunday, the boy and I finally used my Groupon for Crepe Crave to enjoy some tasty crepes. I definitely recommend this place. Great crepe options, fantastic coffee, and a yummy variety of gelato flavors. I can't wait to go back to try the gelato!

Best. Ever.
I am obsessed with Instagram. It is by far the best iPhone photo app AND did I mention that it is free?! Can't beat free. What I love about Instagram is that you are able to edit your pictures using one of the many filters available. There have been a number of updates since I've joined (December 2010)-the addition/tweeking of filters and features (tilt-shift blur). Apparently the blur/focus feature isn't as new as I thought, I just didn't understand the tilt-shift feature. Go figure!

There are a number of sites associated with Instagram. I'm still deciding which is my fave... But, Webstagram is pretty great because it is basically your entire Instagram application on the web! You can even "like" and comment photos of those you follow. Nifty.

So, I'm looking forward to my faves to come back on: Glee, Modern Family, The Middle, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (and a few others I watch here and there).

BUT I'm also looking forward to these two new ones:

Talk about great cast. I love Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph and I just adore Christina Applegate. I'm really excited about this one. Catch it on NBC, Wednesdays 8/7c. Apparently the pilot aired last night, so it's time to play catch up!

I love, love, love Zooey Deschanel, so I'm hoping New Girl will be a hit. It kicks off Tuesday, September 20th 9/8c right after Glee!

I've been following Kelly Framel's blog, the glamourai for some time now and I can never seem to get enough of it...or her! She's so stinkin' adorable. I just spent the past 2 hours reading her blog from day one, yes, from the past forward...and of course I get so far and an 'Ooops.. Something went wrong.' message pops up. Bummer! But this little guy made light of the situation.

First a very awkwardly dressed cowgirl tried to sell me steaks and seafood and then just moments ago, a well dressed fella tried to sell me pizza. Since when do they sell pizza door-to-door? Hmm...

And why is it that I can unintentionally be rude to those I love, but not to strangers trying to sell me crap?

There are a select few celebs that I love and adore (and secretly want to be besties with!). Here's my list.

Natalie Portman, she's an intelligent, strong, successful woman and such a cutie! And who cares if she has a weird laugh (Oscars criticism), so does everyone else.

Zooey Deschanel, she's smart, creative, funny, successful and so stinkin' adorable! And she has killer style and great hair.

Nicole Richie: just the kind of betch I hang out with. She's hilarious, inappropriate, but she's also a smart, strong woman. She's turned her life around and now she's doing great things for herself and her family and all the while she's still fun! She's super stylish and I've copied her hairstyles a few times... :)

Guilty: I sometimes like Katy Perry.

Her video for Last Friday Night is more of a mini movie and I both love and hate it. I like that she can get into a goofy character, compromising her usual good looks. I don't appreciate the Rebecca Black cameo. The girl had her 15 minutes. Anyway, here is the video, decide for yourself.
